When starting a business, a point-of-sale system is not something you initially think of. What even is that? Do you really need it?

Yes, you do need it. One thing I learned about business, especially in retail and food and beverage industries, is that efficiency is one of the keys to success! A POS system basically speeds things up, and that includes back-office operations!

If you’re ready to invest in a good POS system that can make your business run smoothly, here are our top picks!

How much does a POS system cost in Malaysia?

A POS system in Malaysia typically starts at around RM100 a month for basic packages, but the price will vary depending on the inclusions, add-ons, and the provider. The hardware is a separate payment, which costs over a thousand.

One of our top POS systems in Malaysia is StoreHub because it’s an all-in-one service. You only need one system for online and offline transactions, a handy feature that hooked us.

We found everything easy to use. The interface is user-friendly, and there’s a cloud so you can access it from anywhere and get real-time reports.

The inventory management is also impressive. This basically simplifies everything so you won’t lose track of your stocks—you can even transfer supplies from one store to another and purchase from suppliers.

And yes, you can grow your business because StoreHub has good integration capabilities. You’re free to expand your business online because of the customisation and multi-store support.

However, these customisations aren’t readily available in the plans. The online and QR orders are add-ons, which add to the annual costs.

Another bummer is the lack of 24/7 support. On the plus side, they’re very responsive, based on our experience.

Pros

  • All-in-one service
  • User-friendly interface
  • Efficient inventory management
  • Good integration capability

Cons

  • Online features not included in regular plans
  • No 24/7 customer support

Super responsive

Great experience with Storehub POS so far, everyone has been super responsive. Arranged delivery, installation was done quickly and we had a thorough training session with John. He has helped us through some errors, and it’s all fixed now. The system is running well.

Slurp is focused on providing a convenient POS system for restaurants. It’s all about increasing efficiency, and we love how they do this.

A standout feature is the Waiter App, which basically lets servers receive orders from customers and send these directly to the kitchen! It’s a time-saving tool that can be very handy during busy hours.

Plus, it offers QR ordering and online store and delivery. Unfortunately, there’s no other e-commerce platform integration that lets you expand your business on other sites.

But we understand since this mainly caters to in-person orders. On the bright side, Slurp is very user-friendly—clients we spoke with liked its simplicity.

It’s also an ideal solution, budget-wise. Small businesses can get the basic features for only RM790, and while there’s a huge gap for the highest tier, the inclusions are worth it.

Pros

  • System is for increased efficiency
  • Time-saving tools
  • User-friendly UI
  • Affordable price for small businesses

Cons

  • Limited e-commerce integration

Most user friendly POS system I used

“This is by far the most user friendly POS system that I have ever used. Nice user interface and easy to operate compared to the one I previously used. Not to mention they do not have much hidden cost like per transaction cost like my previous POS. I like their support team too which easy to contact and patient to teach me use when I have some issue with the POS, unlike the previous one was having tough time for their support to even pick up my call. Definitely will recommend it to my friends if they are going to open a F&B cafe. Thanks Slurp!”

Very attractive UI/UX display system

“Slurp! POS is the most recommended Point-of-Sale system for small and medium sized F&B outlet to grow the business. Track sales easily, get real time analytics and QR ordering & online payment functionality as well ! Straightforward user journey & very attractive UI/UX display system. Kudos !!!”

Xilnex makes it easy for business owners to monitor and manage their inventories. The advanced remote management is seamless and hassle-free—impressive!

We like the portability of the iPad POS and the Xilnex On-the-Move. You have full authority no matter where you are, including seeing the reports in other currencies (this one supports international expansion!).

Plus, these allow for detailed reporting. The Xilnex POS system lets you simplify everything through custom reporting, so you’re always updated with your inventory.

It also supports business expansion, which we love since the open API lets you integrate with 3rd party apps.

When it comes to your online business, this is a cost-effective solution. It has a commission-free online ordering platform, which means no hidden fees!

But all these aren’t the easiest to understand. Some clients found the UI not user-friendly. Maybe that’s a price to pay for all these cool features.

Pros

  • Open API
  • Portable management
  • Detailed reporting
  • Supports international expansion
  • Commission-free online ordering platform

Cons

  • App is not user-friendly

Helps with business productions

“Really helping when you need to know your business productions flow from raw materials until it sold to guests. The calculation from raw materials to ready product (include packaging) is precise.”

One of our POS system choices for new and small businesses is Loyverse because it’s super affordable! Actually, it’s free! You can use the software by downloading the app— super easy and a budget-friendly option!

There’s no need to purchase expensive hardware, too. We appreciate that the app works on many hardware that you can connect to, such as POS terminals, barcode scanners, and label printers.

For a free app, we like the features. The Loyverse inventory management is pretty good because you can check your supplies easily by using your mobile device, like purchasing from suppliers, transferring orders, and stock adjustments.

To top it off, many clients thought the e-commerce integration was superb! You can connect it to many popular online platforms, like Lazada, Shopify, and Amazon.

However, we do admit there aren’t a lot of features for better expansion and some clients hoped for a more user-friendly app. Nonetheless, the 24/7 live chat is there to help!

Pros

  • Free POS system
  • Compatible with many hardware
  • Complete basic features
  • E-commerce integration

Cons

  • Limited features
  • Needs better app upgrades

The best I’ve tried

“I’ve tried A LOT of POS systems for devices and this is by far the best I’ve tried. Works great for our small business! Really hope that guys make an option to be able to have category titles and group them together when printing the kitchen reciept! Hoping they can add a service charge to the total bill soon so that we don’t have to add it manually”

-MH Paderna, Google Play Store Review

Most affordable yet sophisticated Point Of Sales software

“At first I didn’t see the options and features. But the more I learn about Loyverse the more I know that I am in the right place to finding the most affordable yet sophisticated Point Of Sales software. As a stall food owner that sells burgers and juices, I need POS software that can be used by both me and my only staff but with in his version is with limited access, can be installed on phone and PC so I can arrange the price on back office while my staff doing the selling and serve customers.”

Eats365 focuses on boosting restaurants. We appreciate that it offers efficient solutions, like having one system to cater to what your business needs, except for retail businesses.

You basically get the core module, which you can expand and customise based on what you need. This cost-effective solution allows for better flexibility, which really helps businesses, especially those just starting out!

Honestly, we found that the core modules have lots of inclusions already. But expanding your business will lead to higher costs because you’ll need a lot to get some basic features.

We want to put the spotlight on Eats365 Biz, a single device that lets you conveniently manage online orders. We like that you can sync this with delivery apps, which helps you spread your visibility.

The 3rd party integration impressed us too. It allows you to grow your business and reach more customers—most clients we spoke with loved how seamless it was to integrate.

Pros

  • Efficient solutions in one system
  • Allows for expansion and customisation
  • Integration with delivery apps
  • Seamless integration

Cons

  • Only for the food industry
  • Expansion costs can be expensive

“After struggling with outdated POS systems for years, I finally found one that meets all our needs. The features are top-notch and the customer support is fantastic. Our business has never run smoother since implementing this system. 10/10 recommend!”

-Vincent Tan, Google Review

Integration capabilities are seriously impressive
